Place a lantern outside your home on the 25th, 26th and 27th of September.
Every year, at the end of September, during the Rivers of Light festival organized by the Théâtre des Petites Lanternes, Sherbrooke is illuminated by hundreds of handmade lanterns. For the past 5 years, the people of Sherbrooke have been taking to the streets and occupying the public space by creating an absolutely magical parade.
In 2020, rather than gathering in the street, we are inviting citizens to place their lantern inside or outside their door, near their window, or in their shop window.
We then realized, why not extend the invitation?! Are there other municipalities, organizations, individuals who would like to join the movement? Together, would it be possible to create a wave of lanterns that would bring hope and happiness? In these exceptional times, can we sparkle and glimmer together?
So, we invite you to join us and register for Light Up Quebec.

You’ve made a lantern? Send us the name of your street
or your town and we’ll add a lantern on the map!
Municipalities and organizations
The objective for each municipality/organisation would be, by using the tools we are putting in place, to use your different networks to encourage your residents to first make a lantern and then light it up during the first weekend of the Journées de la Culture which will take place on 25th, 26th and 27th of September. Each municipality/organisation has the opportunity to promote the event as much as they wish as well as to create activities around it if they so desire.
By registering for the activity, municipalities/organisations will have access to :
4 lantern-making videos (3 in French, 1 in English) created especially for this year; [Free]
The possibility to register for the 8 interactive workshops scheduled in September and guided by one of our facilitators; [Free]
A toolbox of ideas on how to develop easy and inexpensive lantern-related activities; [Free]
A promotional toolbox that you could adapt with visuals, key messages, proposals for promotion on social networks, contests, etc.; [Free]
A place reserved for a citizen of your municipality/group in the lantern recipe book (first come, first served for up to 10 municipalities/organisations); [Free]
A half-page advertisement for your municipality/organization in the lantern recipe book published in the fall of 2020 (first come, first served for up to 3 municipalities/organizations); [Free]
The possibility of scheduling an interactive workshop specifically for your community. [Optional - cost $100]
